Game

Final Fantasy XFinal Fantasy X is the tenth installment of the world-famous Final Fantasy RPG series by Square Enix. Releasing in 2001, it moved the series to the Playstation 2, complete with enhanced graphics, sound, and game-play. It brought many innovative features to the series, including a battle system which lets you swap party members out during battle, a unique character customization system, and most notably, voice acting.

It tells the story of Spira, a world plagued by a terrible creature called Sin. The narrator, Tidus, finds himself pulled from the world he knows, and thrown 1000 years into the future, where he meets and joins a summoner named Yuna on a pilgrimage to defeat Sin.

To tell you anymore would spoil Final Fantasy X‘s amazing story, and I don’t want to do that, so I’m going to talk about the gameplay mechanics next.

Final Fantasy X uses a turn-based fighting style, like its predecessors. You earn experience with every battle, but unlike other Final Fantasy games, you don’t level up. You earn “Sphere Levels”, which you can use to move around a Sphere Grid, and customize skills and attributes for each character. With the Sphere Grid, you can essentially make any character be anything you want them to be.

I love Final Fantasy X for many reasons. I like the Sphere Grid a lot; I think it’s an innovative, unique, and fun way to develop your characters. I love the characters. Tidus is my favorite, but I like so many others – Auron, Seymour, Kimahri… I love the story. It took so many twists and turns that not only kept me hooked, but made me think about bigger things like religion’s influence on man, and love triumphing over death. Final Fantasy X really is a fantastic game.

Final Fantasy X is currently available on Playstation 2 and PC. An HD remake, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster released for Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita on March 18th, 2014. It gave us the same game with improved visuals and sound, International Edition content not ever before released in North America, an Expert Sphere Grid, and many more features.
